As boat traffic continues to increase, a new mooring system is now in operation across the Göcek Gulf to protect the marine environment and improve bay management.
Why Has the Mooring System Been Introduced?
In recent years, boat density in Göcek has increased significantly. Scientific research shows that although the ideal capacity of Göcek’s bays is estimated to be around 700–800 boats, the number of boats during peak summer often reaches 1,000–1,500.
This high traffic creates pressure on the marine ecosystem, especially on the seabed. Traditional anchoring methods can cause serious damage because anchor chains drag across the sea floor and harm Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows.
These underwater meadows are extremely important for the Mediterranean ecosystem because they produce oxygen, provide habitat for marine life, help absorb and store carbon and protect biodiversity.
To reduce this environmental impact, authorities have introduced a controlled mooring system.
What Is the New Göcek Mooring System?
The new system is managed by the Turkey Environment Agency (TCEA) together with Environmental Management Inc. (CEYAS).
Instead of free anchoring, boats now connect to fixed mooring buoys (tonoz system) in selected bays. This prevents uncontrolled anchoring and reduces damage to the seabed.
The goal is to protect nature while keeping Göcek accessible for sustainable yacht tourism.
Authorities state that the system is launched primarily for environmental protection and sustainable bay management.
How Large Is the System?
According to official data, the system currently covers:
17 bays
926 sea mooring points
906 fixed moorings
Capacity for 886 boats at the same time
This creates a more organized and controlled structure for overnight stays in Göcek and Dalaman bays.
Which Bays Have Mooring Buoys?
The buoy system currently applies to the following bays in Göcek Gulf: Bedri Rahmi Bay, Binlik Bay, Boynuzbükü, Göbün Bay, Göcek Island, İnceburun, Kille – Büyükkova Bay, Martı Bay, Osmanağa Bay, Sarsala Bay, Tersane Island, Domuz Island, Yassıca Islands, Zeytin Island etc.
These are among the most popular overnight stops for sailing routes starting from Göcek and Fethiye.
The highest capacity is currently in Boynuzbükü, one of the busiest bays in the region.
Mooring Fees for Charter Yachts
Mooring prices vary depending on boat size and season.
Boats 12–14.99 m
Low season: 350 TL
High season: 1.000 TL
Late season: 1.000 TL
Boats 15–17.49 m
Low season: 600 TL
High season: 1.250 TL
Late season: 1.250 TL

DERIA - Reservation System
Boat owners and charter guests can reserve their mooring spots in advance through a mobile application or web platform «DERIA».
New Stay Limit Rules
The new DERIA system also introduces stay duration limits.
Maximum 3 days in one bay
Maximum 11 consecutive days in the Göcek region
The system also defines entry and exit times similar to marina operations.

Waste Management and Environmental Control
Another important improvement is environmental monitoring.
Through the DERIA platform, boats can request: waste collection, grey water disposal and black water disposal.
The system is being integrated with:
GATS (Ship Waste Tracking System)
Blue Card Tracking System (MKTS)
This helps authorities monitor waste disposal and reduce pollution in enclosed bays where water circulation is limited.
